The Belize Barrier Reef sits only minutes from San Pedro, making local two-tank diving one of the easiest ways to experience more of the reef without spending your entire day on a boat.
Local Diving from San Pedro
Our local dive sites are located directly offshore from Ambergris Caye, giving us quick access to the distinctive spur-and-groove reef formations of the Belize Barrier Reef.
With more than 30 local dive sites available, your divemaster selects the sites based on weather, sea conditions, diver experience and where you have already been diving.
Repeat guests can experience a variety of reef sites rather than being taken back to the same location each day unless requested.
Morning Schedule
The morning two-tank trip is our regularly scheduled departure and does not require a minimum number of divers.
Meet the team, prepare equipment and get ready for departure.
Depart San Pedro for the first local reef dive.
Return to the BPDC dock for your surface interval with water, fruit and snacks.
Return to the dive center after completing your second local reef dive.
Prefer to dive later?
A two-tank afternoon trip may also operate when there are at least 4 divers confirmed.
Morning departures do not require a minimum. The 4-diver minimum applies only to the afternoon departure.
What You'll Experience
Local dives typically average around 60 ft / 18 m and feature coral canyons, spur-and-groove formations and a mix of Caribbean marine life.
Before each dive, your divemaster provides a full briefing covering the dive site, maximum depth, conditions and recommended bottom time.
Common marine-life encounters can include nurse sharks, turtles, rays, eels, groupers, snappers and other reef species, with occasional encounters with larger pelagic life.
Our standard recreational dive ratio is up to six divers for each divemaster. Groups may be smaller depending on the number and experience level of guests.
